CHALLENGE: Patterson + Sheridan, a nationally respected IP and litigation law firm, needed to modernize their online presence. Their site didn’t reflect their technical expertise or industry leadership. We led with a comprehensive wireframing process to clarify structure and user flow, reworked the site architecture for scalability, and developed a custom employee-only section to support internal communications.

We evolved the brand message around the idea of “Where Innovation Meets Protection,” bridging the technical rigor of IP law with an approachable, confident tone.
Visually, the site uses crisp typography, clean layout systems, and industry-specific iconography to make content easy to navigate and digest. Features include a dynamic homepage experience, enhanced attorney bios, and a powerful insights section to support thought leadership efforts. Everything was built to support business development, recruiting, and internal communication—without sacrificing the firm’s distinctive character.
Patterson + Sheridan needed a website that could bridge two worlds: the technical sophistication of patent law and the user-friendly clarity today’s audiences expect. Their clients—engineers, inventors, and corporate legal departments—value accuracy, efficiency, and trust. We responded with a modern design system that made dense information digestible, elevated their credibility, and projected confidence without being cold. Strategic use of whitespace, intuitive hierarchy, and refined iconography helped us strike the perfect balance between depth and accessibility. A growing number of Patterson + Sheridan’s users interact via mobile—whether they’re scanning attorney bios between meetings or forwarding a practice area page to a colleague. That’s why mobile optimization wasn’t an afterthought—it was built into every stage of our process. We created custom mobile layouts, optimized image sizes, and ensured all key actions were tap-friendly and easy to complete on the go. Menus collapse cleanly, content flows naturally, and visual hierarchy is preserved even on the smallest screens. No matter the device, users get the same polished, professional experience that reinforces the firm’s reputation and builds trust from the first tap.
We started with a full suite of wireframes to visualize the experience before moving into design—giving Patterson + Sheridan a clear, interactive roadmap of how users would flow through the site. These wireframes allowed us to map both desktop and mobile journeys in detail, identify potential friction points early, and ensure alignment between user goals and business needs. Clients were involved from the start, with real-time feedback and collaborative walkthroughs that made the process efficient and transparent. This step also helped the internal team at Patterson + Sheridan get buy-in from stakeholders, speeding up decision-making and setting the stage for design success.
The original site had grown organically over time, making it hard to navigate and even harder to manage internally. We took a step back and rebuilt the site architecture from the ground up—organizing pages by audience needs, improving SEO structure, and creating flexible templates that can grow with the firm. Key content like attorney bios, practice groups, and thought leadership are now easier to find and explore. The navigation system was streamlined to reduce cognitive load, and breadcrumbs, filters, and structured content modules make browsing intuitive for users across industries. Behind the scenes, we built with scalability in mind, so the site could easily accommodate future services, offices, and media.
A core goal for the new site was to support growth—from lead generation to talent acquisition. We placed thoughtful calls to action across key decision-making touchpoints and optimized the user path to conversion. Attorney bios were enhanced to not only reflect technical credentials, but also highlight strategic capabilities and personality—making it easier for prospects to build trust and make contact. Industry-specific messaging was woven into core pages to speak directly to target verticals. And behind the polished front end, smart CMS tools make it easier for the Patterson + Sheridan team to update and expand the site as the firm evolves.
